Time for a Time Force sequel! Coming to you exclusively from Den of Geek, Boom! Studios has announced it’ll be showing some love to one of the most popular Power Rangers teams outside of Mighty Morphin, Power Rangers Time Force. While the Time Force characters have been seen in Wild Force, Super Megaforce, Hyperforce, Super Ninja Steel, and the comics they’ve never gotten a proper sequel story all to themselves. Until now.
In 2020, Boom! Studios will release Power Rangers: Sins of the Future, which will feature the popular characters of Wes and Jen from Time Force. The original graphic novel features story by Trey Moore, writing by Matthew Erman, will illustrations by Giuseppe Cafaro, and lettering by Ed Dukeshire. The plot synopsis is below and should excite the many Time Force fans out there.
A story that involves Wes and Jen trying to make their time traveling romance work? That’s brilliant and a question the series really never touched. Just how does someone in the year 3000 go on dates with a guy living in 2001 and onward?
It also asks the important question of how their relationship might alter all of time. Jen is changing the past by being with Wes and while much was made of changing destiny in Time Force, the wrong alterations could still have an adverse effect on reality. With reality being shattered in the Power Rangers comics not too long ago, this mucking with the timeline can’t be a good thing.
For any fans who are wondering, Boom confirmed to us that this comic takes place AFTER the events of the Wild Force/Time Force team-up. As you may recall, Wes and Jen reunited in that special but we never got to see what happened after it. Now we will!
The cover for this graphic novel is below.
“Jen Scotts of Power Rangers Time Force takes center stage in this story, and she’s such a deep, interesting character with so much to pull from that writing her and other characters from Time Force has been a real gift,” says writer Matthew Erman. “It’s been so wild to play in this sandbox and easy to see why it’s regarded by fans as some of the best the franchise has to offer. I can’t wait for everyone to read this!”
Dafna Pleban, Senior Editor, Boom! Studios gives fans some small insights into what will happen in this comic.
A lingering question in our minds is how the events of the Power Rangers Shattered Grid comic event will factor into this story. Shattered Grid featured many Rangers from past series and Jen was a main player. However, at the end of that event everyone’s memories were seemingly wiped and time was (more or less) restored. Could elements of Shattered Grid make it into this comic? We’ll have to wait and see.
As with Power Rangers: The Psycho Path before it, it’s always encouraging when Boom commits to telling a Power Rangers story that doesn’t involve the Mighty Morphin team. While they are undeniably the most popular and marketable team in the franchise’s history, it’s great that Boom found enough success with The Psycho Path that they’re showing more love to another non-MMPR team.
If you’re the type of fan who’s always hoping for more non-MMPR stories? Pick up this book. Story writer Trey Moore’s name being attached should inspire confidence from fans since everything he’s contributed to the comic universe has been gold. The origin of Psycho Green, the horrifying story behind Finster, Karone being put on trial for her actions as Astronema, and more have all been excellent and we can’t wait to see what he added with a longer story to play with.
Once again, in October of 2020 Power Rangers: Sins of the Future will be released. We’re sure it’ll be a timeless wonder.
