Do you keep hearing your Xbox One start-up only to find it isn’t switched on at all? This might well be what has been happening - if you have a parrot, that is.
What you will have also experienced if you have any of the tech above is it switching on or speaking to you unprompted. It can be both annoying and unnerving. Live with someone called Alex or Alexa, and chances are your Echo will be activated way more often than you want it to. As long as it doesn’t happen while we’re sleeping, we can handle it.
What would be even more unnerving is the sound of our console turning on while we are alone in the house. Our Echoes don’t control that part of our lives, at least not yet. If we heard the undeniable sound of an Xbox One starting up, only to check the console and it still be lying dormant, well, that might warrant us to head on out until someone else is home.
What we would not have considered is that our pet parrot or other exotic bird has heard the console startup so many times that it can mimic the sound. That’s what the pets of not one, but two different Redditors have managed to do. The closest replica to the startup sound is in the clip above, but the bird below does a pretty good job too. Certainly good enough that we would be fooled into checking the console.
The next time your Xbox One starts up unprompted, maybe check your birdcage before your check the console. If you don’t have an exotic bird that can mimic sounds and noises living in your house, but you’re still hearing unexplainable console startup noises, we don’t know what to tell you. Maybe give the Ghostbusters a call.
