The first major patch for Warcraft 3: Reforged has been added, highlighting just how many issues the game had at launch. Thankfully, Blizzard is hard at work improving the Warcraft 3 remaster, and hopefully it will resemble the game that everyone had expected some day soon.
The Warcraft 3: Reforged 1.32.1 patch notes are essentially a laundry list of bug fixes that sound like they should have been taken care of before launch, not two weeks afterwards. The patch doesn’t do much to enhance the game, rather it mostly fixes game-breaking problems that likely caused the most frustration for its disappointed day one player base.
For the campaign, audio levels and dialogue have been adjusted, and a “defeat screen” will no longer pop up after loading a mission. Cutscenes have been “tweaked” with new camera angles and animations, and issues that were were blocking player progression and failing to give credit for completing missions have been eliminated.
A few adjustments to custom games have been added as well. Multiboards will no longer cause a custom game to crash, and a bug that caused two versions of the same map to appear when joining lobbies was fixed.
Many gameplay animations were also improved, including the Ziggurat upgrade and many of the portraits, and the overall rendering of Classic mode has been updated as well. Additionally, a hitching issue that would come up when training units for the first time or constructing buildings was repaired.
Finally, several annoying interface issues were eliminated. Whispers will now include the name of the person that sent them, settings for audio and subtitles can now be adjusted before launching the game, and the chat now keeps up with most recent messages. A few other fixes were made as well, and you can check out the full patch notes here.
Saying that Warcraft 3: Reforged had a rocky launch would be an understatement, but if Blizzard continues to listen to the game’s community and work to fix it, it could some day present the experience that fans who watched the BlizzCon 2018 announcement were expecting. Still, it will certainly be an uphill battle, as this patch mostly just makes the game more playable, and it will still need many more fixes down the road.
