The Nintendo Labo was released earlier last year to mediocre reception. While an interesting VR concept, the Labo has gone on to not see much success in the long run. Its clearance price at a Walmart seems to mark the death knell of the product.

Indeed, Reddit user westermac posted an image of a clearance tag at a Walmart showing a retail price of $10.00 for Nintendo Labo. The Reddit user specifies this is for the Nintendo Labo’s robot and variety kits.

For reference, Walmart’s website lists the Nintendo Labo Variety Kit at $45.60. While Walmart does not list the Robot Kit on its website, the sites for retailers Best Buy and GameStop list the Robot Kit at $59.99.

While $10 is a steal for both the Robot and Variety Labo kits, it also shows the lack of continued success for the apparatus. The Labo did sell twice as much as God of War during its first week of release in Japan, but the clearance price demonstrates the Labo’s failure to appeal to a broad range of audiences that own the Nintendo Switch console.

The Labo VR helped to somewhat revitalize and repurpose Nintendo Labo, but it was ultimately not enough to drive more sales for the peripheral. However, its VR functionality also fell short due to blurry visuals and its initial lack of engaging content. Games like Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild eventually were updated for Labo compatibility. However, while Super Mario Odyssey provides a fun, if shallow, Labo experience, Breath of the Wild was a huge disappointment on Nintendo Labo VR.

For those who manage to find a Nintendo Labo kit for $10 as Reddit user westermac was able to, it could be worth the investment to explore its possibilities. Beyond that, it may not be worth a greater investment for the apparatus’ lack of quality content. Anyone who owns Super Smash Bros. Ultimate might do well to experience it with Labo VR, as it has been one of the best Labo VR games so far. In either regard, it could be worth it for those holding out for a similar clearance to the one reported by westermac.
