VRChat‘s following has rocketed since December as more VR and non-VR gamers discover its complete madness which you will either love or loathe. The rise in popularity has made it a security target and the VRChat developers have issued a warning today regarding unofficial downloads which may be installing malware on PCs.
The statement from the developers reads:
I’m not sure why anyone would pick it up from anywhere other than Steam but this warning should be taken seriously. With more than two million people now romping around in the game/chat room it’s going to be an easy target for unscrupulous individuals.
Please be patient with us (and our response times!) while we continue to work hard on major updates to provide increased security, more reliable servers and an overall improved VRChat. A patch went out this week and we’ll have another one out shortly.
