Sales of VR systems HTC Vive and Oculus Rift appear to have dried up amongst Steam users, a Steam survey conducted by Valve has revealed.
Spotted by VentureBeat, the survey revealed that Vive ownership grew 0.3 per cent in July and had zero growth in August. Similarly the Oculus Rift managed a 0.3 per cent increase in users in July and only 0.1 per cent August.
It’s not as if the systems launched to huge sales figures either, with only 0.18 per cent of Steam users owning a Vive and just 0.10 per cent using a Rift.
Supply constraints can’t be the issue either, with both systems readily available during these periods, so it must be a combination of cost and a lack of must-have experiences which warrant the hefty initial outlay.
Sony is the next major player to enter the VR market with its PlayStation VR in around a month, though its £349 price tag may also make widespread uptake difficult to achieve.
