While fans have eagerly awaited the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighter’s announcement from Nintendo, much speculation has gone around about who it could be, up to even the likes of Master Chief. As of recent, some evidence suggests that Dante from the Devil May Cry series could be getting in on the Smash action soon enough, and it appears the evidence continues to stack given suggestive comments from one of Devil May Cry 5’s voice actors.

As per an AMA podcast from YouTube channel JoJo Wifi, Brian Hanford, who voiced V in Devil May Cry 5, may have indicated that Devil May Cry’s Dante will be heading to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. After discussing his preferred fighters in Super Smash Bros., he had been asked if he knew of the escalating rumors of Dante’s appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

While he expressed slight bitterness that he couldn’t be part of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a brand-new character, he did suggest that Dante will be in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. His discussion on the topic can be heard below.

“To be part of Marvel Vs. Capcom or Super Smash Bros., or both, which is what Dante is gonna be– it’s just like ‘come on!’”

Of course, Hanford saying that Dante will be part of both the Marvel Vs. Capcom and Super Smash Bros. universes is what makes many think Dante will take part in the fight against other video game characters.

Now, there is a possibility that Hanford’s near-confirmation of the rumors is merely an assumption that the rumors are correct. However, as a person who likely has inside knowledge of the Devil May Cry series and its involvements elsewhere, Hanford’s statement shouldn’t be taken lightly.

The same podcast also featured a discussion on how Nero may actually be a better Super Smash Bros. Ultimate addition for his Devil Breaker mechanic and other melee combat abilities, instead of Dante’s comparably straightforward sword fighting mechanics.

As there has yet to be any confirmation, it would be best to limit the excitement, as rumors come and go. However, we can remain hopeful that one of gaming’s most wise-talking rebels gets some time in the spotlight in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
