Bethesda’s Fallout: New Vegas has entered the All Formats All Prices UK video game chart at No.1, GfK Chart Track reports.

The follow-up to Fallout 3 comfortably outsold the first game, with first week unit sales up 29 per cent making it Bethesda’s biggest ever launch.

EA’s Medal of Honor took a 48 per cent sales dive and slipped to No.2, FIFA 11 dropped to No.3, Professor Layton’s latest is new at No.4 and Just Dance 2 is at No.5 with a 39 per cent increase in sales.

SEGA’s Vanquish misses out on a Top 10 place at No.12, EA Sports MMA begins its chart life at No.23 and Activision’s DJ Hero 2 misses the beat at No.25.

Meanwhile Konami’s Castlevania took a ten place fall to No.20 and Namco Bandai’s Enslaved looks to be on its way out of the chart after slipping from No.11 to No.31.

Given the success of Fallout 3 and the generally positive reviews, it’s no surprise to see New Vegas topping the chart. Whether or not the game has the legs of its predecessor remains to be seen.

There’ll likely be some glum faces at EA and Activision this morning, with EA Sports MMA and DJ Hero 2 failing to make an impact in the business end of the chart, and with some bona fide blockbusters on the way, the future doesn’t look rosy.

Speaking of blockbusters, Friday sees the release of four highly anticipated sequels, Fable III, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, Smackdown vs Raw 2011 and Rock Band 3. Also hitting stores are Shaun White Skateboarding, Tony Hawk Shred, Ben 10 Ultimate Alien Cosmic Destruction, Super Scribblenauts, PES 2011 (Wii, PS2, PSP), FIFA Manager 2011, Deadly Premonition, Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest and PS Move title The Shoot. Oh, and X-Factor the game, too.
