GfK ChartTrack reports that God of War III has become Sony’s second chart topper of the year, following the success of Heavy Rain.
The PS3 exclusive outpaced the launch figures of God of War II on PS2 by 2.65 to 1, but came some way short of matching the first week sales of Final Fantasy XIII – released on both PS3 and Xbox 360, Square Enix’s RPG accounted for almost three times as many sales.
Speaking of Final Fantasy XIII, its sales fell 80 per cent resulting in a fall from No.1 to No.3, while EA’s Battlefield: Bad Company 2 held onto the No.2 spot and was only 2,000 units from upsetting God of War III’s debut.
Ubisoft’s Just Dance drops just one place to No.4, while THQ’s Metro 2033 can be pleased with a fifth place debut. Other new releases faired less well – Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening at No.11, C&C4 at No.12 and MotoGP 09/10 at No.21.
Friday’s new releases include Just Cause 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of the Year Edition, How to Train Your Dragon, Red Steel 2 and what we expect to be next week’s No.1, Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver.
