GfK Chart Track reports that FIFA 11 has held on at the top of the All Formats All Prices UK video game chart, despite a flurry of new releases hoping for chart success.
PES 2011 is the week’s highest new entry at No.2, losing the football battle with EA’s FIFA by a considerable margin. Launch week sales for FIFA 11 were ten times that of PES 2011 and it’s the first time since the series debuted in 2001 that the new PES instalment hasn’t charted at No.1.
Konami can celebrate the fact it did come out on top in the third-person adventure genre, with Castlevania: Lords of Shadow charting at No.6, one place above Namco Bandai’s Enslaved.
Wii Party starts what is sure to be a long stay in the chart at No.10, WRC narrowly misses a Top 10 place at No.11, and NBA 2K11 sneaks into the Top 20 at No.19.

Konami will clearly be disappointed by the performance of PES 2011, especially given the gulf in sales to rival FIFA. Given the huge marketing campaign for FIFA 11 – which will continue throughout the holiday season – it seems highly unlikely that PES will be able to make up any ground. It is, however, worth remembering that the PES franchise is traditionally very strong across much of Europe, so it would be wrong to label this year’s edition a failure.
Just as interesting as the football battle is the competition between Castlevania and Enslaved, the former coming out on top. Given the nature of the holiday season release schedule, any kind of prolonged stay in the chart will be seen as a success for the titles, though the likes of Medal of Honor hitting stores on Friday, followed by Fallout New Vegas, Vanquish and MMA on October 22 are likely to snaffle up new game sales.
