Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 has entered the UK video game chart at No.1, becoming the 14th best-selling title (revenue) of all time at launch and the seventh for a Call of Duty title.
Direct comparisons with previous launches are, however, difficult, given Black Ops 3 launched on a Friday and not the typical Tuesday. What is pretty clear is that gamers are abandoning the previous generations, with 91 per cent of week one Black Ops 3 sales coming on PS4 and Xbox One.
EA’s FIFA 16 jumps up a place to No.2, outselling the publisher’s Need for Speed reboot which is new at No.3. Halo 5: Guardians drops a place to fourth, with Assassin’s Creed Syndicate rounding out the top 5.
It’s good news for Nintendo, with Mario Kart 7 racing back into the chart at No.14 thanks to a huge 898 per cent sales jump – perhaps because of Tesco’s amazing value £49 2DS which included a copy of Mario Kart 7.

Look out for both Fallout 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider in the charts next week, with Bethesda’s epic RPG most likely to take the crown from Black Ops 3. Tomb Raider, too, will perform well as an Xbox exclusive and should chart in the top 5.
