GfK ChartTrack reports that Mafia II from 2K Games has claimed the top spot in the All Formats All Prices UK video game chart, ousting Square Enix’s Kane & Lynch 2, itself recording a 33 per cent increase over its debut week.
Mafia II recorded the UK’s strongest launch since 2K’s own Red Dead Redemption some 14 weeks ago. The Xbox 360 version came out on top accounting for 52 per cent of total sales, PS3 took 41 per cent and the PC the remaining seven per cent.
Strong price promotions on Wii hardware – £129.99 – helped Wii Sports Resort back into the Top 10 at No.5, while City Interactive’s Sniper: Ghost Warrior and Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia re-entered the Top 10 at No.9 and No.10, respectively.
We could be looking at a very different Top 5 next week with Metroid: Other M and H.A.W.X. 2 likely to feature, while SEGA’s Valkyria Chronicles II on PSP will hope for a Top 20 place.
