A Twitch streamer by the name of HandicapableOne has managed to beat Ghost of the Babe - the DLC for the super difficult tactical jumping platform game Jump King - using only his chin. Seriously.
He didn’t do that just because. HandicapableOne has muscular dystrophy - a kind of disease that results in the progressive breakdown of muscle mass and strength. It’s incurable.
Because of this muscle weakness, HandicapableOne presumably struggles with fine motor manipulations such as handling a console controller. But that clearly isn’t stopping him from damn well handling that controller anyway, just with his chin instead.
Jump King is a popular precision platform game that was released in May of last year, and has since gained a lot of infamy in the streamer world. This is because it is really dang difficult to beat, and sadistic viewers (and masochistic streamers) have been frothing at the mouth to get in on the action. The concept behind the game (and its appetisingly-titled DLC Ghost of the Babe released last month) is simple: Jump and climb. Lots. And fall…lots.
Despite this simplicity, it is an absolutely infuriating game. There are a few reasons why it’s so difficult to beat Jump King. Mainly, the fact that the smallest poorly-timed step could mean falling down a super long drop, watching as you lose a heart-wrenching amount of progress, and being forced to climb your way back up.
And that’s exactly what HandicapableOne did over and over again until finally, last week, he beat what is reportedly the most difficult Jump King chapter yet - Ghost of the Babe. After pouring over 66 hours into doing so. And just to emphasise again, using only his chin to manipulate the controller.
This guy has to be up there with the most patient and dedicated people in existence. Not only did he successfully do it, he did so incredibly calmly (at least, that’s what he led on). Other streamers haven’t quite managed to keep their cool in the same way whilst playing this game. Popular streamers like xQc and Mizkif, for example. A lot of screaming into the abyss was involved.
HandicapableOne isn’t stopping here, though. He’s already moved onto tackling Dark Souls, again using only his chin to manipulate the controller. Can you imagine? His commitment is incredible, and is certainly drawing a lot of attention to the astounding abilities those with disabilities - gamers and others alike.
