Videogame news sure moves fast. Just last week, Crystal Dynamics unveiled Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, a forthcoming downloadable title that would evolve the series in ways that no-one had previously expected.

Not a day later, a flood of details about the game came to our attention, telling us about the gameplay, the visual style and most importantly, new co-operative aspects.

Now, that’s all in the past. Even though The Guardian of Light hasn’t been released yet, employees at Crystal Dynamics have already begun hinting at Tomb Raider 9… a title completely seperate from Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light.

A disgruntled fan posted on the ‘Lara Croft’ facebook page, claiming that the ‘real’ Lara Croft was dead, left behind long ago by Core Design (the designers behind the Tomb Raider series before Crystal Dynamics took the reigns).

A Crystal Dynamics employee was quick to reply;

Soon after this apparent hint to a Tomb Raider 9, another fan posted, asking for clarification as to whether Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light was Tomb Raider 9.

“You do know that Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light isn’t Tomb Raider 9 right?

Crystal are working on two projects, this is something different and new. Sorry to hear you don’t like the look of it, but keep an eye out for our forthcoming trailer, it might help you see how much fun [Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light] is.”

The same Crystal Dynamics employee replied:

Seems like pretty clear proof that Tomb Raider 9 is very likely in development. Who knows, perhaps the rumors we posted back in our original Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light announcement article could be true?

“Yeah don’t worry. Crystal are working on two projects ;)”

Lord knows I’m up for a Tomb Raider reboot, especially with a younger, smoother, fitter Miss Croft… of course, I’m talking about the gameplay.
