This year’s Gamescom will be 10% bigger than last year’s thanks to the opening of a new public exhibition hall, the event’s organisers have announced.
The Koelnmesse’s Hall 5, which had previously been reserved for business use, will now be open to the general public, expanding the exhibition space by 16,000 square metres. The business area will also be expanded into a new area to help accommodate visitors.
“gamescom is a success story,” said Koelnmesse COO Katharina C. Hamm. “Since its was first held in Cologne, it has recorded positive growth with exhibitors and visitors and in terms of internationality. After seven years of gamescom in Cologne, the additional expansion of its exhibition space is the practical response to its enduring popularity and the logical consequence in view of its potential.”
A new “Family & Friends” area is also being built for families along with a “gamescom Tabletop” space for trading card and board game fans. Further details on those, however, have yet to be announced.
Current exhibitors confirmed for this year’s Gamescom include EA, Bethesda, Microsoft, Nintendo, Ubisoft, Crytek, Konami, Warner Bros, Square Enix, Deep Silver and more, with the event opening its doors to the public on August 6.
