Update: Sony has delisted Drive Club earlier than it previously announced. Original story follows.
DriveClub may be most famous for being one of the most broken video games at launch. It eventually recovered to some degree, but that work will soon go to waste. DriveClub and its selection of DLC is going to be taken off the PlayStation Store at the end of the day.
As mentioned previously, DriveClub was initially broken at its launch which occurred a year after its intended release as a PS4 launch title. The game has become by no means a flawless one, but it has improved significantly since with integral updates and a bevy of DLC.
Regardless, DriveClub and its DLC are being taken off the PS Store. The reason for this is unclear, as are many scenarios where similar things occur. However, DriveClub’s servers will be shutting down in March of 2020. This means that DriveClub’s multiplayer lifespan is coming to a close for those who aren’t fans of offline play.
DriveClub has been a very representative game of this console generation. Many titles, including Fallout 76, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Assassin’s Creed Unity, and more have started as incomplete experiences. Although, they have improved over time with a series of updates and DLC add-ons. In the case of DriveClub, such DLC add-ons included the Lamborghini and new campaign tour.
After the botched release and improvements made thereafter to DriveClub, Sony announced in 2016 that DriveClub developer Evolution Studios would be shutting down. However, Codemasters revealed shortly after that they would be bringing in the staff from Evolution Studios.
DriveClub was released for PlayStation 4 on October 7, 2014.
