Epic Games’ redundantly named Epic Games Store is doing quite well so far. It obviously has Fortnite‘s popularity helping it, as well as offering free games every two weeks. The userbase has been steadily growing, and you could say it is well on its way to competing with Steam. As a matter of fact, it might actually be closer than you think. That’s because gaming giant Ubisoft just made the power play of ditching Steam in favor of the Epic Store....

Ubisoft made a lot of players unhappy a few months ago with the news that the online functions for its older titles would be terminated. This isn’t necessarily the company’s fault, though. After all, technology eventually becomes obsolete, and it’s easier to terminate these functions than support them for a handful of players. However, Ubisoft has an update for players affected by this. It also has an update planned for Anno 2070....

Ubisoft has declined to confirm whether Ghost Recon Wildlands and For Honor are due to release during its next financial year, telling fans that it will provide an update on their release when it has “more visibility”. Asked whether the two games would ship next year during an earnings call last night, Ubisoft CFO Alain Martinez explained that “for the line-up of fiscal year 17, we didn’t comment about For Honor and Ghost Recon whether it’s going to be next year or not....

SEGA has confirmed that Valkyria Chronicles 4 will ship for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch in the US and UK this fall. Valkyria Chronicles 4 is the first core entry in the cult franchise since 2011’s third instalment on PlayStation Portable. This latest game adheres to the same style as the previous titles, although it introduces a new Grenadier class that is able to lob mortar rounds at enemies. Jay Pinkerton, the co-writer of brilliant brain-teaser Portal 2, has returned to developer Valve after leaving the company just last year. Valve had seen a number of major players depart in 2017, including fellow Portal 2 scribes Erik Wolpaw and Chet Faliszek, leading many to wonder if the studio was stepping away from narrative-driven games. However, a spokesperson has now confirmed (via PC Gamer) that Pinkerton has returned to the Half-Life developer, after previously being spotted over the weekend on the company’s staff page....
