The Koei branch of Koei Tecmo has been known predominantly for one thing: the Warriors games. True, they did release management simulation titles such as Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Nobunaga’s Ambition, but when someone says Koei, the immediate response is usually: “Oh Dynasty/Samurai/Hyrule/Fire Emblem Warriors (Orochi)“. They’ve built up a reputation as one of the leaders in the hack-and-slash/beat-em-up genre. That’s why Dynasty Warriors 9, their flagship franchise’s first foray into an open-world setting got such a bad rap; it was one of the most poorly optimized PC ports in recent memory....

Having seen Microsoft show its hand the previous day, Sony could be in a position to add a few more nails into the Xbox coffin. The PlayStation E3 2016 Conference livestream is sure to feature games including The Last Guardian and Gran Turismo Sport, plus a range of VR titles to support the hardware’s October launch. However, most are expecting Sony to discuss new console hardware, and the rumoured PlayStation 4 Neo could well fit the bill....

This week in PC game releases (April 15 to 21), we’ll see Anno 1800 start a new voyage. Likewise, World War Z brings out its undead hordes, and Konami’s Arcade Classics might provide some nostalgia. Update: Sony has delisted Drive Club earlier than it previously announced. Original story follows. DriveClub may be most famous for being one of the most broken video games at launch. It eventually recovered to some degree, but that work will soon go to waste. DriveClub and its selection of DLC is going to be taken off the PlayStation Store at the end of the day. As mentioned previously, DriveClub was initially broken at its launch which occurred a year after its intended release as a PS4 launch title....

High octane rhythm action title Thumper will launch for both Nintendo Switch and Xbox One this spring, developer Drool has announced. “After Thumper released back in October, we’ve received many requests to bring it to Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Today, we’re happy to say Thumper will launch on both platforms this spring,” said Thumper co-creator Marc Flury. On Switch Drool plans to make full use of the HD Rumble feature, allowing players to “feel every pulsing hit, scrape, pound, and crash”....

Every year when a new Call of Duty title releases, players have the same question on their minds. This question is whether or not there be a ranked playlist. To the disappointment of fans, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019 did not have this feature. Instead, it just had a playlist which contained the competitive rule set. Treyarch provided ranked league play in several of its past titles, giving players hope that it would return in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War....

This True Detective review contains spoilers. True Detective Season 3 Episode 6 The investigation gets serious on True Detective season 3, Episode 6, “Hunters in the Dark,” but it also gets more infuriating. Not only do we not find out who Wayne (Mahershala Ali) and Roland (Stephen Dorff) buried in the woods, we get further lost in possibilities. Every clue on True Detective is planted evidence. “If You Have Ghosts” ended in the 2015 timeline, with the two true detectives agreeing to disagree on how to spend their time....

Today Ubisoft announced its financial results for the fiscal year 2021-22, related to the period ended on March 31, 2022. Below you can find a summary of the publisher’s results on top of the forecast for current fiscal year. The press release included the usual comment by Chief Executive Officer Yves Guillemot. Interestingly, at the beginning of the conference call, Guillemot also commented about the talks of consolidation and acquisitions....

In a video interview with Gamersky, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed that the studio is working on ‘new type of experiences’ for the Splinter Cell series (via Video Games Chronicle). Earlier this year, Guillemot explained that the success of other titles such as Assassin’s Creed put Sam Fisher’s story on the back burner. The pressure to innovate but retain what fans loved about Splinter Cell was another factor, and Guillemot said that for now, certain teams were ‘taking care’ of the IP....

PlayerUnknown Productions has announced it has hired David Polfeldt as a senior advisor. Polfeldt was managing director of Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment for 12 years. He left the company earlier this year in March, as he felt that he wasn’t “the right manager for what the studio has become”. During his tenure at Massive Entertainment, Polfeldt worked on many of its leading titles and was part of the teams in charge of the delayed Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and a mysterious open-world Star Wars project....

Speaking to IBTimes, Naughty Dog Director of Communications Arne Meyer teased that the upcoming standalone title Uncharted: The Lost Legacy could be quite lengthy. When asked about The Lost Legacy’s switch from DLC to standalone story, Meyer stated that it was down to Naughty Dog’s inability to limit themselves to a shorter adventure. ‘There’s no way we could, sort of, constrict and restrain ourselves, and that’s exactly what was happening here,’ Meyer explained....
