Gwent was originally a small mini game found in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, where players took a break from slaying monsters to spend the night playing cards with various bar patrons. Originally a dwarven card game for 4 players called Barrel, The Witcher 3 simplified the rules to be a two player game that is actually kinda fun....

First week unit sales of The Witness have totalled over 100,000 across PC and PS4 combined, generating revenue of more than $5 million, creator Johnathan Blow has revealed. “The Witness has now been on sale for a week, so it seems like a good time to post a financial summary,” wrote Blow in a blog, before noting that deals with digital stores means he’s not able to be too precise about platform breakdowns....

Yakuza Kiwami is a remake of the original PS2 Yakuza game, jazzed up for release on PS4 and PS3 in Japan. Sega has announced a new release date for upcoming strategy title Total War: Warhammer III, with the game now arriving in February. The third instalment in the series was first announced back in February of this year. We’ve been promised even larger scale battles across the biggest maps so far. Four factions known as the Ruinous Powers battle over the fate of the Realm of Chaos. There’s also additional playable factions, including the human civilization of Kislev and Grand Cathay....

Fortnite has begun its second annual Pride event, Rainbow Royale, with a collection of free LGBTQ-themed cosmetics, and the arrival of DC’s transgender superhero Dreamer. Nia Nal, otherwise known as Dreamer, debuted in the fourth season of Arrowverse series Supergirl, and was the first trans superhero in a TV show. By extension, this also makes Dreamer the first character confirmed as trans in Fortnite. Dreamer will be available via Fortnite’s Item Shop later in the event, following a Zero Build Squads tournament where winners can collect the character early....

Mixer has been making a pretty massive push to attract more users to its platform lately, with the Microsoft-owned streaming service stealing some major names from its chief competitor, Twitch. Recently, Mixer managed to get Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, Twitch’s most popular personality, to sign an exclusivity agreement for Mixer, meaning he can only stream on that platform. And while its a pretty big blow to Twitch, the company seems to be taking it in stride....

Ubisoft wants you to try its subscription service, Ubisoft+, for free on PC from now until 10th October. As just one of the many announcements to have come out of last night’s Ubisoft Forward, Ubisoft is offering players the chance to “play your favourite franchises, challenge yourself and your friends or create new worlds on PC with Ubisoft+, including new releases on day one and premium editions DLC”. There are two tiers; you can either limit your access to PC, where you get 30 days to try its library, premium editions, and 100+ games, or you can go for “multi access” which offers the same but also the option to play on Google Stadia via cloud gaming, too....

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint had some hype in the run-up to its release that quickly fizzled out upon launch. Whatever positive aspects existed in the game were tremendously overshadowed by how buggy, broken, and bland the experience was. Something went terribly wrong in development and the end result was a game that no one should have to suffer through. In a press release today, publisher Ubisoft acknowledged the disappointing launch of the game and subsequently delayed all of its upcoming major releases to avoid a similar situation....

The UK Government has put out a call to gamers and parents to submit their experiences alongside data from games companies to aid in their ongoing investigations to better understand loot boxes and their impact in video games. The announcement on the UK Government’s website (spotted by Eurogamer) says that they’re looking for “the experiences of players and their parents or guardians as well as rigorous, high quality data and research from video games companies, academia, civil society as well as any other organisations with an interest in this issue....

Advertising billboards have started to appear around the LA Convention Centre ahead of next week’s big event, with Uncharted 4 taking centre stage above the main entrance. Snaps of the convention centre were posted on NeoGAF last night, along with shots of banners for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Just Cause 3. A poster for Battleborn also appears to be slightly out of shot in the image above....
