Over the space of two years, three of the most beloved Japanese role-playing games in history were released in North America. The first, in 1994, was Final Fantasy 6 (known in America as Final Fantasy 3), a story of people coming together amidst chaos. Many still think of it as the greatest work of an iconic series. A teenage Scott Lynch was so fond of the game that, years later, the protagonist of his novel (‘The Lies of Locke Lamora’) was named as a homage to one of the main characters in the game....

Ubisoft is adding a “curated” version of Ubisoft+ to the new PlayStation Plus service, with twenty-seven games available initially. This service is called Ubisoft+ Classics, and its catalogue will increase to fifty games before the end of the year. The full subscription includes over a hundred games. (I still think that the company should only have forty games on there at any one time. Thus, they would be able to call the subscription The UB40....

Instead of expanding massively on the first game, Ubisoft has opted to announce a sequel with The Division 2. Some players of The Division may be a little disappointed to hear that a sequel has been in the works instead of expanding on The Division but the good news is that updates will still be rolling out for the first game. Two updates are planned which will include two new Global Events and more Legendary difficulty missions to keep players busy until the sequel arrives....

Union workers at Ubisoft Paris have been called to strike in response to CEO Yves Guillemot’s comments to employees that ’the ball was in their court’ following disappointing financial results in the company’s most recent quarter. “Today more than ever, I need your full energy and commitment to ensure we get back on the path to success,” Guillemot wrote in an email to staff last week. “I am also asking that each of you be especially careful and strategic with your spending and initiatives, to ensure we’re being as efficient and lean as possible....

As we near the December launch of Ubisoft’s Immortals Fenyx Rising, the team continues to show the game off. Last month’s Ubisoft Forward brought us a gameplay deep dive and release date details, and now some more gameplay has arrived. Courtesy of Gamespot, we’ve been shown the first 20 minutes of Immortals Fenyx Rising gameplay, and it’s looking pretty interesting. The video starts out with mostly cutscenes and story narration. While the game clearly takes notes from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (from the same developer), it moves things in a different direction too....

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has announced that the studio will be implementing a “structural shift” after it received allegations of sexual misconduct in its workplaces (via PCGamesN). These changes have been detailed in an internal letter to employees which has now been published for the public. Succinctly, Guillemot said that he has “decided to revise the composition of the Editorial Department, transform our human resource processes, and improve the accountability of all managers on these subjects....

Ubisoft sure is conducting the Assassin’s Creed hype train at full throttle, Ranters. With the release of the newest game in the series, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, launching only hours from now they aren’t about to let the train slow down, either. The company has already confirmed another entry for their hit franchise that will launch sometime within the next fiscal year. That means that sometime in 2011 and 2012, Ranters will get to see what’s next for Desmond Miles and his assassin ancestors....

Sony has revealed the first screenshots and footage of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and confirmed that a playable demo will be available to download from PlayStation Store later this summer. The footage offers the first look at Uncharted 2 running at 1080p/60fps on PS4, providing an early glimpse at some of the improvements developer Bluepoint has made to the game’s lighting and textures. Can’t see the difference? One comparison made on NeoGAF highlights some of the changes made to one of the game’s helicopters, showing significantly improved texture detail on the chopper’s chassis....

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End’s multiplayer mode will feature microtransactions from launch, Naughty Dog has confirmed. According to GameSpot, players will be able to purchase weapons, tools and upgrades using real-world cash or unlock them via an in-game currency. “No gameplay items will be gated through microtransactions”, however, Naughty Dog insists. The developer will also be using data from December’s closed multiplayer beta to balance their implementation. Microtransactions were added to Uncharted 3’s multiplayer mode 10 months after the game’s launch back in 2011, eventually leading to a free-to-play version being released on PlayStation Store....

The troubled film adaptation of the Uncharted series hit another snag, as the film faces yet another delay after the departure of its sixth director. Bumblebee director Travis Knight left the troubled project in December with the studios scrambling to find another director to head the Tom Holland film, but whether or not the film will be released by the presumed 2021 date is anyone’s guess. Knight’s departure was the latest catastrophe that has defined the production of the film with all attempts to bring Nathan Drake to the big screen have failed time and again since 2010....

A Japanese company that allowed customers to take Mario Kart themed tours of Tokyo has been successfully sued for copyright infringement by Nintendo. During yesterday’s episode of The Borderlands Show, Gearbox Software officially revealed Borderlands 3’s next seasonal event, Broken Hearts Day, and also confirmed that a level cap increase is indeed forthcoming. Riot Games is in the midst of trialing a bunch of interesting changes to Valorant over on the Public Beta Environment (PBE) server this week. For starters, as we’ve highlighted in another recent article, Fracture is getting a major overhaul that looks very promising. But the more impactful changes pertain to the reworking of several Agents’ flashes, which, if locked in after this week’s trial run, seems destined to shift Valorant’s meta in a big way — though, as is sometimes the case, shifting it differently for ranked and pro play....
