Ubisoft has rebranded Tom Clancy’s XDefiant to… XDefiant. The name change comes as Ubisoft attempts to recover from the botched announcement of the game last year. The announcement was criticised by Tom Clancy fans for straying too far from the franchise’s serious military themes and formula. The trailer revealed graffiti-filled maps and specialists with attitude. The rebranding appears to have been hastily deployed, with the XDefiant landing page lacking any images or a fleshed-out logo compared to the previous page....

Ubisoft has announced a new cloud computing project it calls Ubisoft Scalar, which it says will be the basis for even bigger game worlds. Lead development on Scalar is being undertaken by Ubisoft Stockholm, which is also creating a new IP that will use this technology in an under-wraps game. A flashy trailer today said Scalar will enable “the construction of gigantic game worlds at a scale far greater than anything that’s come before” and support “massive numbers of assets, simulations, AI and player entities”....

It’s come to light that Ubisoft’s Singapore studio is now under investigation by a local watchdog over alleged unfairness and sexual harassment. A report by The Straits Times claims the national watchdog for fair employment practices is investigating the studio. The Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices (Tafep) told the outlet it received anonymous complaints last month in the days following an extensive Kotaku report into the studio....

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the UK’s No.1 game for a fourth week in a row, but it’s Pokemon which is once again the most interesting story. Riding on the Pokemon GO wave, three Pokemon 3DS games have re-entered the UK Top 40, with two more inside the Top 50. Former Naughty Dog scribe and Uncharted creative director Amy Hennig has said she feels the action-adventure series still has room to continue, despite the fact Nathan Drake’s globe-trotting antics were wrapped up in Uncharted 4.
