THQ Nordic, the company previously known as Nordic Games, has two projects currently in development for Nintendo Switch. CEO Lars Wingefors confirmed the news while announcing the company’s latest IP acquisitions earlier today, where he revealed that the firm had purchased the rights to Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, War Leaders: Clash of Nations and Legends of War. “These are not financially material acquisitions, but due to our love for these types of games they were natural acquisition targets that add up to our portfolio,” said Wingefors....

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 will be one of the biggest games this festive period – so it can be incredibly frustrating if you’re not able to play it. Ubisoft has released a new trailer for The Division that shows off the new features that have been added to the game in the 1.7 update. The reveal of Octopath Traveler 2 wasn’t the only surprise delivered today by Tomoya Asano and his team at Square Enix, as the publisher announced that Triangle Strategy is coming to PC. The charming turn-based strategy game is coming to Steam and we don’t even have to wait long, as the release date is set for October 13. Pre-order is already available both for the standard and digital deluxe edition, which comes with a mini digital artbook....

Ubisoft is reportedly “very happy” with the progress of its beleaguered pirate game, Skull & Bones. While the developer/publisher did not explicitly reveal any further information about the game’s development, in a discussion about the company’s most recent earnings report, CFO Frederick Dugent said he was “very happy” with progress thus far, and reportedly has no plans to cancel or delay the project further (thanks, TheGamer). It might not seem like much, but with numerous high-profile delays, issues, and operational changes, Ubisoft’s been surprisingly taciturn, so pirate fans will likely be happy just to hear that the game’s still in development....

A little over 18 months after launch, Ubisoft is calling time on Hyper Scape, its reasonably entertaining entry in the already well-represented free-to-play battle royale genre. Hyper Scape made its debut in August 2020 after a short PC-only beta, where it was immediately met with a lukewarm reception - Eurogamer called it “as smart as it is generic”. Less than three month later, Ubisoft announced it was embarking on a major overhaul of its 100-player battle royale experience so it could reach its “full potential”....

Ubisoft has teased the return of the Splinter Cell series, suggesting that the company is looking for the “right moment to make a comeback.” This isn’t the first time that the company has spoken about the return of Splinter Cell as the company’s chief creative officer said that the bringing the series back is a “question of means” when asked about it in September. Speaking to Chinese language publication Gamersky, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot explained that the company is developing a “new type of experiences, but more on different devices” to what fans may be expecting....

Indie publisher Digerati has announced it’ll be bringing hand-drawn puzzle platformer Unbound: Worlds Apart to Xbox and PlayStation consoles this coming February. The game originally launched on PC and Nintendo Switch back in July. You play as Soli, a gifted mage with the power to open portals that can change the properties of the world he’s in. Exactly one month after Riot Games announced it was working on better AFK detection for Valorant, the developer has rolled out the new system in patch 2.05. The new patch also introduces more severe penalties for players who go AFK in matches. Plus, chat-based offenses will now have harsher repercussions too. Valorant patch 2.05 also includes two minor updates to Sova and Astra. Sova’s Owl Drone and Astra in her Astral Form can now have unique keybinds assigned for flying up and down....

Steam has added a new histogram feature to its game reviews, which will give the user an option to see how a game’s user reviews have changed over a period of time. This change has been implemented in response to the ongoing trend of review bombing. Valve’s Steam UI designer, Alden Kroll, wrote a lengthy blog post discussing the change and why it’s been brought in now. Review bombing is where users negatively review a game en masse, usually as a response to the developer’s actions, or, as Kroll puts it, in protest of ‘choices the developer has made in the Steam version of their game relative to other platforms, or simply that they don’t like the developer’s political convictions....

Momentum for Virtual Reality is impossible to stop and one day will be free, even if in its current form it is “a pretty expensive, relatively primitive proof of concept”, Oculus Rift creator Palmer Luckey has said in an interview with GameSpot. “In the long-run, it’s impossible to stop [VR]. At some point, technology will advance to the point where VR comes along for free,” said Luckey. He added: “I don’t expect everyone to be interested in VR as it is today, which is honestly a pretty expensive, relatively primitive proof of concept compared to where we want it to be, where science-fiction depicts it....
