The Witcher 3’s 588MB day one patch improves the frame rate found in the Xbox One version, but comes at the cost of various visual elements, including shadows, texture filtering, and the playback of pre-rendered cutscenes, according to a report by Digital Foundry. After comparing the game before and after the day one patch, Digital Foundry states that applying the Xbox One patch introduces “aggressive stuttering” to the game’s pre-rendered cutscenes, causing videos to play as low as 22fps....

Don’t hold your breath just yet, there are no official announcements, rumors, or even breadcrumbs from The Witcher developer CD Projekt RED about an upcoming The Witcher 4. However, it would be hard for the studio to ignore the allure of such a successful franchise; while they’re not keen on making any new Witcher game anytime soon (to make room for Cyberpunk 2077), they’re not closing doors on anything. What this means is that there is still a possibility for a fourth Witcher game (albeit a faint one)....

The third episode of Netflix’s The Witcher focuses mainly on Geralt and Yennefer, with Ciri’s story largely shoved to the side. This allows the plot threads of Geralt and Yennefer to have a bit more breathing room, and even play on each other a bit, doing wonders for the pacing compared to The Witcher Episode 2. However, The Witcher Episode 3 is easily the worst episode yet for Geralt, brought down by some clunky dialogue and a poor representation of Triss Merigold....

The Witcher TV show depicts a world that is not largely anglocentric. Rather, everywhere the characters go is inhabited by a broad spectrum of different races and creeds. This goes against the grain of most Western fantasies and it’s really great to see. Both Andrzej Sapkowski, the author of the books and CD Projekt Red, the game creators are based in the very white Poland. However, The Witcher world itself isn’t based on real geographical locations and Sapkowski has approved of the diversity, never intending his fantasy world to be made up entirely of Polish demographics....

Mega Cat Studios is dedicated to making new games for retro consoles. Not ports, actual physical games that the developers have created from scratch. Remasters and remakes appear to be the order of the day, especially in the video game world. Lara Croft may be about to endure another reboot but that hasn’t stopped Square-Enix from putting together a trilogy package containing her three most recent outings for the PlayStation 3. Valve just made waves by slapping an unbelievably long ban on toxic Dota 2 players, and the community (minus those banned players, of course) is celebrating. The ban for Dota 2’s “bad actors” was announced via the game’s blog, along with a list of all the different infractions that could’ve caused one. SEGA’s tease with the lightbulb and subsequent poking around revealed that Two Point Studios was working on a new hospital sim. Today it was finally confirmed by SEGA. Eurogamer has gained fresh insight on Codename Invictus, the upcoming Assassin’s Creed multiplayer game in development by Ubisoft as the third (and counting) title set to be part of the franchise’s upcoming Infinity platform. Speaking this week in Paris, Assassin’s Creed boss Marc-Alexis Coté revealed a presentation slide for Invictus full of artwork showing past Assassin’s Creed protagonists, as well as enemies such as Odyssey’s minotaur. “Codename Invictus is being designed to be a standalone game on the Infinity hub, alongside Codename Red and Codename Hexe,” Coté announced....

Scorn, described by Serbian game developer Ebb Software as an “atmospheric first person horror adventure” will launch for PC via Steam in 2017. Scorn will feature a combination of gunplay and puzzle solving, with the environment and the creatures which inhabit it doing whatever they can to stop your progress. We’re told there will be no cut-scenes, with all storytelling taking place in-game. In addition, gameplay will not feature a HUD, with everything the player needs to know implied and indicated through environmental design....

Valve has explained how rumours of Left 4 Dead 3 arose from development experiments built out of Source 2, in a new interview with IGN. Earlier this year, the studio stamped out the speculation that a third game in the classic apocalyptic co-op shooter was in the works. “We did briefly explore some Left 4 Dead next-gen opportunities a few years ago. But we are absolutely not working on anything L4D related now, and haven’t for years,” the official statement announced....

Wargroove’s Double Trouble DLC will be released on February 6 for PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One, as announced by developer and publisher Chucklefish (via Gematsu).
