Sales of 2013’s Tomb Raider reboot have surpassed 8.5 million, Square Enix has announced, making it the highest-selling Tomb Raider title in the franchise’s history. The figure includes the number of copies sold on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC upon its original release and last year’s PS4/Xbox One remaster. “Tomb Raider ignited and expanded the fan base, pushing the series to a new level. Ubisoft is cleaning house. As reported by VGC (via a financial report), both Ghost Recon Frontline and Splinter Cell VR — plus two other unannounced games — have been canceled. For those who don’t recall, Ghost Recon Frontline was set to be a battle royale spin-off of the aged franchise. Its announcement went very, very poorly. Due to a “changing financial environment,” neither game will see the light of day....

Ubisoft Montreal creative director Jason VandenBerghe is leaving to join ArenaNet as its new director of design. Known to many of you as the yelling Viking man behind the game For Honor. A group of US senators has expressed concern at the possibility of a windfall payout for controversial Activision Blizzard boss Bobby Kotick, as part of Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of his company. Four politicians, including former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, signed a letter to the Federal Trade Commission alerting it to the issue, The Wall St Journal has reported.
